CPD England ACCREDITATION STANDARDS Version M1.0 CPD England is an independent accreditation body for medical and healthcare education. CPD England is not a regulator and is not endorsed by the General Medical Council, a Royal College or any government department. Accreditation applies to an individual educational activity for a stated period. Every application is assessed against the eight standards below. A reviewer records findings against each standard and recommends one of four outcomes: accredited; accredited subject to minor changes; further information required; not accredited. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 1 — DEFINED EDUCATIONAL NEED The activity addresses an identifiable learning or professional-development need for its intended audience. Evidence normally expected: - A statement of the need the activity responds to - Where relevant, the source of that need: guideline change, service development, appraisal themes, learner feedback ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 2 — CLEAR LEARNING OUTCOMES Learning outcomes are specific, observable and appropriate for the stated audience and duration. Evidence normally expected: - Between three and eight outcomes for a typical activity - Outcomes written in terms of what a participant will be able to do ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 3 — APPROPRIATE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT Content is relevant, accurate and proportionate to the stated learning outcomes. Evidence normally expected: - A programme or module outline mapped to the learning outcomes - No material that is primarily promotional ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 4 — SUITABLE TEACHING METHODOLOGY The educational format supports achievement of the intended learning outcomes. Evidence normally expected: - Description of teaching methods and the balance of didactic to interactive time - For online activities, how participation and engagement are supported ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 5 — APPROPRIATE FACULTY Faculty have suitable expertise or experience for the material they deliver. Evidence normally expected: - Names, roles and relevant qualifications or experience - Where faculty are in training, arrangements for supervision ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 6 — EVIDENCE-BASED CONTENT Clinical recommendations reflect reasonable contemporary evidence and accepted professional practice. Evidence normally expected: - Key references, guidelines or professional standards relied on - Clear labelling where practice is contested or evolving ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 7 — EVALUATION Participants have a genuine opportunity to evaluate the activity. Evidence normally expected: - The evaluation instrument or questions used - How feedback is reviewed and acted on between deliveries ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ STANDARD 8 — COMMERCIAL TRANSPARENCY Relevant financial interests, sponsorship and conflicts are declared and appropriately managed. Evidence normally expected: - Declaration of sponsorship, commercial funding and faculty interests - Confirmation that sponsors have no control over educational content ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CPD CREDIT VALUES As a general principle, one hour of active educational participation corresponds to one CPD credit. Breaks, registration, exhibition time and social programme are excluded. The reviewer considers educational content rather than assigning credits by duration alone. There is no universal statutory UK CPD-point system; recognition of a credit value is ultimately a matter for the learner and their appraiser. DURATION OF ACCREDITATION Twelve months from the issue date, provided the activity is delivered substantially as described in the application. VERSIONING These standards are reviewed at least annually and versioned. Accreditations issued under an earlier version remain valid for their stated term. Questions about these standards should be sent through the contact form at https://cpdengland.com/contact
