Policy
Appeals Policy
A provider who disagrees with an accreditation decision or a credit value can ask for it to be reconsidered.
Version 1.0 — last reviewed January 2026
1. Who can appeal
The organisation or individual who submitted the application. Appeals cannot be brought by third parties; concerns from others are handled under the Complaints Policy.
2. Grounds of appeal
- A standard was applied incorrectly or to material the activity does not include.
- Relevant evidence supplied with the application was not taken into account.
- The credit value does not follow the published CPD credit methodology.
- The process was not followed, including an undeclared conflict of interest.
Disagreement with a reasonable educational judgement, without any of the above, is not on its own a ground of appeal.
3. Deadline
Within 28 days of the decision letter. Later appeals are considered only where there is a good reason for the delay.
4. How to appeal
Send us a message from our contact page, choosing “Complaint or appeal” as the topic and quoting your application reference. Set out which ground you rely on and identify the specific standard or credit calculation in dispute. You may attach material that was part of the original application; new material that changes the activity is treated as a resubmission, not an appeal.
5. Who considers it
A reviewer who was not involved in the original assessment, with relevant subject expertise. They see the application, the original findings, the decision letter and your appeal.
6. Timescales
- Acknowledgement within three working days.
- Decision within twenty working days of acknowledgement.
7. Outcomes
- Appeal upheld: the original decision is replaced, and accreditation issued if due.
- Appeal partly upheld: for example the credit value is revised.
- Appeal not upheld: the original decision stands, with written reasons.
8. Fees
There is no fee to appeal. Where an appeal is upheld and accreditation is issued, no further review fee is charged.
9. Finality
The appeal decision is the final stage of CPD England's internal process. Nothing in this policy affects a provider's legal rights.
