Accreditation Terms

These terms apply to every application submitted to CPD England and to every accreditation granted.

Version 1.0 — last reviewed January 2026

1. What accreditation covers

Accreditation applies to the single educational activity described in the application, as delivered in the format, duration and audience stated. It does not extend to other activities run by the same provider, to the provider organisation itself, or to future versions of the activity that differ materially from the application.

2. Duration

Accreditation runs for twelve months from the issue date shown in the public register, unless withdrawn earlier. Renewal is available for an unchanged activity at half the single-activity fee.

3. Fees

  • Fees are payable on submission and cover the review itself.
  • Fees are not refunded where an activity is not accredited.
  • Where a decision is “accredited subject to minor changes” or “further information required”, resubmission within three months carries no further fee.

4. Provider obligations

  • Deliver the activity substantially as described in the application.
  • Use the accreditation mark only in accordance with the Logo Usage Policy.
  • Display the accreditation number wherever accreditation is claimed.
  • Notify CPD England of material changes to duration, format, audience or learning outcomes.
  • Retain participation and evaluation records for the period of accreditation.
  • Pass on complaints that concern the accredited activity.

5. CPD England obligations

  • Assess the application against the published standards in force at submission.
  • Give a written decision referenced to each standard.
  • Issue an accreditation number, certificate, logo pack and register entry on success.
  • Maintain the register entry for the period of accreditation.
  • Operate published appeals and complaints processes.

6. Changes to an accredited activity

Minor updates such as refreshed references, a corrected slide or a substituted faculty member of equivalent standing do not require re-review. Material changes require notification, and CPD England may require re-review before accreditation continues to apply.

7. Withdrawal

Accreditation may be withdrawn where the activity is delivered materially differently from the application, where the mark or associated wording is misused, where an upheld complaint shows the standards are no longer met, or where information supplied was materially inaccurate. Withdrawal is notified in writing, the register entry is marked withdrawn, and the provider must stop using the mark within five working days.

8. Limits of accreditation

CPD England is not a regulator. Accreditation is not approval by the General Medical Council, a Royal College, a medical school or any government department. It does not guarantee that any regulator, employer or appraiser will accept the credit value, and it is not a warranty of the clinical content or the commercial conduct of the provider.

9. Liability

CPD England's liability arising from an accreditation decision is limited to the fee paid for that review. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited in law.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
